After recent commits, the external files issues should be ok.
On Darwin I've noticed that right after startup the cursor
shapes are redefined on the browse tab. If you click to the
static tab, shapes are still a bit confused, clicking back to
browse tab fixes the shapes and clicking

Yes, this behavior is intentional. I am expermenting with
