Hi all,
Some more info. I have 2 hard disk drives. One is a 160 IDE HDD &
the other 80 GB IDE HDD.
160 GB = Other OSS = IDE0
80 GB = GNU/Linux = IDE1

I have mentioned may have been resolved as well.

how an end-user should be doing this. I hope
there is an emergence of a single or multiple GUI tools which lets
end-users touch the /etc/init.d/grub and /etc/default/grub files and
update the boot-loader.
Suggestions, improvements are invited :)

setting needs to go where . Either/or in /etc/default grub or any of
the /etc/grub.d/ folders which indirectly/directly affect behavior of
GRUB.

menu but without any entries. Dunno why it is there, can anybody
explain ?

Just changed the hdd from (hd1,1) to (hd0,1) and things are cool. Of course
don't have the niceties of graphical stuff but can live without it :)
