My feeling at the moment is that there is a bug (or at least non-optimum
feature) in the code that determines the minimum width. If it is not a bug

Just upgraded my Ubuntu 18.04 to 18.10. This upgraded GC from 2.6.19 (at

If the reconcile window shows the same starting balance as your
statement does and you have set the ending balance to that from the
statement then after you tick off all the transactions from the
statement then you should end up with a reconcile difference of zero.
If you don't get zero then

Do you mean you want the program on a flash drive or the data file? If
you want the data file on the flash drive with gnucash installed in
fedora on the PC then that is no problem. I
the removable drive, which should be no problem. Gnucash does not
care where you save to and read from. If you want saved reports to be
on the drive there may be a little more work.

Rather than renaming the current working file I suggest using File >
Save As to save it with the new name (make sure you are saving to the
right directory). Then when you open Gnucash the next time it will
automatically re-open that file.

I am not sure exactly what you mean. Can you explain a bit more about
the situation you are in, and how you got to that position?

The point about memory is a good one @proberts042 I assume that
Windows has a system monitor tool of some sort that you can run to see
how much memory is being used. Try running that and then the report
and see if you are running out of RAM
