Hi Papa Oz!
First of all: I'd recommend updating to a more current version both of
GnuCash (latest 4.x is 4.14 from 2023-03-25) and Finance::Quote (latest
is 1.54 from 2022-12-26). GnuCash 5.0 still has some issues.
The developers decided to publish the stable GnuCash Linux versions as

No; I see full contextual pop-up menus. Using M1 iMac, Mac OS 13.3.1 Ventura,
GnuCash Build ID: 5.0+(2023-03-25).

Hello, Carsten, and thanks for the reply.
Please forgive the anti-spam thing. I had put @gnucash.org in my address book
and I assumed all list-oriented traffic would come through their server. Now
that I see how it works I will probably have to change my registration to a
different address
Sorry, no. I'm still on Monterey though.
One of the late 4.x versions had some window display issues on MacOS,
but not with menus as far as I recall.

Adrien

Hi Papa OZ,
I'd like to respond to the "developers have gone the gnucash route" remark.
That suggests the developers prefer the use of flatpaks over distro packages.
As one of these
developers (though less active these days) and the initiator of the flatpak for
gnucash effort,
I like to state
Before you go the flatpak route though, it may be worth figuring out why your
settings are
not saved. Are there any messages in your trace file ?
A known issue with saving settings is when you have applications installed in
/usr/local. Or
more specifically if there are schema files in
/usr/lo
I've seen this problem too on Intel/Monterey and not on M1/Ventura.

I have a fixed asset account for an automobile with subaccounts for the
purchase cost and depreciation. I am selling this car and purchasing a new
car. How do I delete the old car from my COA without messing up the financials
as there have been debits and credits to the 2 subaccounts. The pare
Adrien,
I believe the OP was referring to the CLOSE toolbar button to the right of
the SAVE toolbar button.

Michael,
Thank you, I forgot about hiding accounts. I'm aware there will be a capital
gain, but since it is personal finance, it is not taxable, just as the
depreciation was not deductible. I just like to write off assets that go down
in value over time.
Thank You,

Vincent, you seem confident. I posted an example. Can you demonstrate
changing say Start of This Year to 1 July in V5?
Code at
https://github.com/flywire/gnucash/blob/Fiscal-year/libgnucash/app-utils/date-utilities.scm#L557-L569
works in V4 (check cur-year/cal-year). See comments at
https://lists.
Hi, John. Thanks for the bug report link. I've left a comment there.

Hi, Adrian.
Yes, I had the window display issues in later 4.x GnuCash. They seem to
be gone now in 5.0. This is a new issue for me introduced in 5.0 for
Intel Mac on Ventura 13.1.1.

Peter

Stopped working again just that quick:
flatpak run --command=gnucash-cli org.gnucash.GnuCash --quotes get --

I recall reading about that here a few months ago, so there may already be
a bug report or it may even be corrected in release 5.0.

That's the behavior since 2006. I never paid attention to the dialog, which is
incorrect. To hide the account in the transfer drop down, you do have to set it
as a Placeholder as well. There's a bug about this that has a long discussion
about it. I can't find it right now.
