I meant "amounts" rather than accounts here.
Sorry for the confusion.

That's one solution. The other would have been (although non-obvious) to set
both accounts
as "Deposit". That's allowed in the csv importer. Deposit and Withdrawal come
from the
early days of the importer and don't cover all use cases very well.
"Deposit" here really means, use the number unch
Problem solved: the withdrawal columns were all negative numbers. I changed
them to positive and it worked correctly.

I'm importing transactions into a checking account. Why do all transaction
amounts go into the deposits column?
I'm trying to import transactions one month at a time for a checking
account.
I have a CSV file with one month of transactions. I went through the

I need to import bank data csv into Gnucash accounts.
So far with some limited success.
I am unsure from the user manual of the required column headings
in the import wizard screen.
If the data to be imported is say:

Hmm I see. Thanks for the suggestion. However I don't think this solves the
issue. I would still need to go manually through all the accounts, and also
this would introduce a layer of complexity in importing my monthly
statements that I don't really want...

I had similar problems and I solved it by turning on "trading accounts" .
This way there are no exchange rates involved in individual transactions,
but instead each transaction is balanced to a currency trading account.
To correct any existing transactions I then had to click on it and accept

In the latest version of gnucash (4.1-2 from flathub) I noticed that, when
importing transactions in .ofx/.csv into a GBP-denominated bank account, and
matching them to expense accounts in EUR, I get the following error message:

Ok, I figured this one out eventually as I had an unintentional oversight.
The header of the CSV file is the one which caused the issue. I had to
ensure that the header is not taken into consideration by increasing the
"Leading Lines to Skip" by 1 as my CSV file had a header.

Hi!
I am looking to import transactions from a CSV file [0] in a European Date
Format (dd.mm.). GNUCash is unable to recognise the date format. The
Date Format field in the import dialog is set to "d-m-y". The Date Format
under "Preferences" is "Locale dd.mm.". I have also tried changing i
I suppose another approach might be to concatenate the description with the
category, separated by a space, and just allow the algorithm, to learn.

One bank I use allows me to customize a set of Categories. The categories can

text found in the description and the categories.
I would like to create categories at the bank which will match the accounts in

Hi ddemott,
I use GnuCash Android since v1.0 and it works fine with GnuCash Desktop.
I write all my transactions on Android, export to .qif, import .qif in
GnuCash Desktop and add exchange rates (I work with multiple currencies.).
That's all I need to do.
Soon GnuCash Android will export to CSV
