Same here. I’ll try more intensive testing tomorrow, but as of now it loads
and runs. Thank you!

I'm glad your accounts are there with your data.
As other people noted, the Saved Reports are not stored with the saved
data; they are part of the user configuration. You will either need to
re-create them (this is what I had to do when my computer died and I only
had been backing up the main data

Robin,
An easy way to determine whether you actually have data in the file is
to start with the Accounts tab.
1. Are most of the displayed balances nonzero? If so, data must be in
the file to get nonzero summary figures. On the other hand, if most of
the balances are zero, it might mean you have

Looks as though you are almost sorted. I have recently upgraded to
Windows 11.
Gnucash Version 5.9 Build ID 5.9+(2024-09-28)
Windows 11Version 24H2 (OS Build 26.100.216 1)

I am deeply indebted to you. This was the key to my dilemma: "My bank accounts

In my rush I forgot that all your custom reports and other details are also

You really want to transfer them too.

One more thing. If you only transfer the XML data file without also
transferring the User files mentioned in that Backup reference, the data
file will open without the various tabs in the Tab Bar that were kept
nicely organized in those User files, so it will look like you lost the
rergisters when

Given that the file size is okay, it is odd that you are only seeing your
expense accounts. What does the "Accounts" page show? My bank accounts are
under Assets-Current Assets; if I right-click and select "Edit Account", I
see that the "Type" is "Bank". Are your bank accounts missing?
Dumb quest

Robin,
You say that you only have three accounts in GnuCash. There should be many
more than that. Take a look under Help to see some examples. You have one
page label on the Tab Bar called Accounts. Your three bank accounts fall
under Assets, but there should be other accounts under Liabilitie
Hello Robin,
A couple of times when I changed computers, I completely lost the files and
could not open them (I tried opening them but there were no transactions).
The solution that worked at the time was replaying the GnuCash .log file as
per screenshot below. Have you tried that? There should be

Thank you for your reply. I think the 136K file size is with data. This is what
it was on the old computer. I have three accounts in gnuCash, Two very minimal
activity, one just normal household activity. They are only about three years
old.

Hi,
The "memo" section of a check is filled from the Transaction Notes field.

I don't know about this for sure (I guess it depends on the number of
transactions and the number of accounts); however, I have about 8 years of
data and my data file is 2.4M (I'm using the default - a compressed XML
file); your 136K size sounds like a blank new file to me.
