The recommended workflow is to import in small increments (perhaps
monthly) adjusting account assignments and train the matching editor as
you go.
Reconcile after each small import.

One possible work-around, although not easy to implement, would be to
create separate users on your computer for each book that needed separate
user preferences. Using separate computers might even be easier.
