Hmm I'll check my Ubuntu install when I get home in a few hours. I'm
pretty sure I've got 2.6.19 installed at the moment and F::Q is right up to
date. Will check and see if my Help button works - I'm pretty sure it
didn't a couple of installs ago until I did a catch up and installed
gnucash-docs
On my 17.10 installation there is a fourth package, python-gnucash.
Don't know if it has any relevance to this particular issue.

Check out https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Debian especially the bit about
gnucash-docs being optional. The button is always there otherwise you
would have to recompile gnucash to add it. I'm running a Ubuntu 17.10 at
home and I'm pretty sure I had to install the docs as well...
Search for *gnucash
Surely they must be...why have that help button otherwise?

I’ve used GnuCash for farm accounting for several years now. It is quite
normal for farm expenses to get interspersed with personal.
As with Quicken, you assign different categories/accounts to different lines in
a purchase if some are farm/business and some are personal.
With GnuCash they’re
Hi Jim, I wanted you to know that I have been using gnucash for our farm

Jim,
I am "sorry" to report that in my humble opinion GnuCash is an ideal
program for your needs. The downside is that it does require some TLC to
set up your books and it will probably consume more of your free time than
you would like.
That said, it works nicely with many bank accounts simulta

If you mean you want to see commas as a thousands separator, that is dependent
on currency/locale I should think. I have mine set to US Dollar/US. I don’t see
any setting for that display in particular, but this option does exist in my OS
locale settings.
All reports I run that are over $1,000.
I've used Quicken for years and am considering switching to gnucash mainly
because Quicken is going to a subscription pay model and I don't want to
be held hostage by it or by an operating system (I always have in the back

It is curious that alphavantage is not one of the choices under the
"Unknown" button in the security editor after the "Get Online Quotes" box
is checked.
After re-reading your initial message I see that F::Q does appear to be
functioning as a standalone but it is not integrated correctly into GnuCa

I forgot to mention the multi-column report.
You could set up a multi-column report with the Income Statement in one column,
and in the other a Balance Sheet and/or a special Cash Flow report showing just
the money movements into/out of your asset/liability accounts.

There are two ways to handle credit cards.
The method I prefer is to enter any charges on the card as follows:
Dr. Expense
Cr. Credit Card Liability

That would beg the question then of how one goes about encoding date ranges in
