Personally, I think this would be mostly solved by switching to TeXInfo,
or to Org Mode. The latter also supports TeXInfo publication.

I can't say what's wrong with DocBook, because using Org is a personal
preference of mine, so first and most important: This is personal
opinion.
* Pros of Org Mode
- Org Mode's markup is easier to understand and start using. No need to
remember tag names (at least for most used formating funct
+1, it's a lot easier to just format-patch and send it to some place
related to the project than using GitHub. :)

I'm not an experienced developer, but I should add that there is more
variables related to the XDG Base Directory Specification than
${XDG_DATA_HOME}, see the latest at

I have followed the latest documentation that says that if one wants to
get the latest source files using Git, then one must clone against the
GitHub mirror, and so I did.
After cloning, I couldn't find the "user_data_dir" function inside,
only "g_set_user_data_dir" (in
