1.8.X (where X is <= 9), on a Ubuntu/Dapper system .
I did the following
apt-get build-dep gnucash
autogen.sh --disable-error-on-warning --prefix /opt/unstable/1.8.9
--enable-opt-style-install
make
sudo make install
