I note that the gimp manual sez that Gimp will do CMYK separations, but
advises using Photoshop instead for this purpose. I wonder if someone could
define for me the actual deficiencies found if one creates cmyk separations in
Gimp and then sends them to the printer, for e.g. a cover for a book.

I've been wondering if you can set the default quality for the jpg filter
somewhere in some configuration file, I have many many pictures here and I
want to edit them (only cut them and maybe do a little color correction) and
then save them again (I know that I am losing quality with jpeg..
