Maybe you could provide more detail about the error and your specific setup?
What does "emerge --info" say?
Do you get any error output when you try to play ogg-files?
Just in case:
I do use audacious once in a while and have been using the 1.5.1
versions for some time now.

On linux-2.6.25 NTFS write support is finally stable...
CONFIG_NTFS_FS=y
CONFIG_NTFS_RW=y
No need to go FAT anymore...

I think all you have to do is to enable the samba USE flag when emerging kde.
You can append the line:
kde-base/kdebase samba
to /etc/portage/package.use
to accomplish that

Well I am not sure, but maybe there is a way of adding more space on
your appliance, if neccessary.
The idea that strikes me, is you could use your current appliance as
the Gentoo-life-system and you install a new machine in that free
area, chroot to it and work further. Really the classical fresh
