For reference, the gcc compiler is gcc 4.3.2 under Debian Lenny and the
compile flags are:
-Os -g -Wall -Wredundant-decls -Wshadow -Wpointer-arith
-Wstrict-prototypes -Wmissing-declarations -Wundef -Wendif-labels
-Wstrict-aliasing -Wwrite-strings -Wmissing-prototypes
