Re: 4.4-STABLE crashes - suspects new ata-driver over wd-driver

2001-12-12 Thread Sam Drinkard
FWIW, I moved from 4.3-R to 4.4-Stable a day or so ago, because I was seeing the ata0 timeout, resetting, plus experiencing random crashes under virtually no load, but always after cron ran at 0200. So far, (only one day and night) no problems anywhere. Cleanly built from cvcsup on 11 Dec. Syst

Just discovered the utility /usr/share/misc/file is either broken or has changed behavior. Now, in order to determine what a file is, I must append the -i switch. Did I miss or mess something up in the upgrade from 4.3-R to 4.4-Stable? Sam To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with

Mike, the file was apparently installed during the build and install, but is not working correctly. Tried to recompile from ~/usr.bin and it did, but still get same behavior. I can't redirect the output to another file to demonstrate either, which is odd. file -v yields file-3.33, magic file fr

Determining Crash cause?

2001-12-15 Thread Sam Drinkard
Is there any known method to determine the cause of a crash when there is no panic, no log entries, or other evidence? Thought my wierdness about nightly crashes disapeared when I moved to -Stable, but I see its back. About the only thing that changed from a previously very stable system was the

Something is rather odd here, and I'm at a loss to explain it. Checking dates does in fact show a Dec 17th datestamp, but comparing the /usr/bin executables against /usr/obj/usr/src/usr.bin executables shows they are different in size, but datestamps are the same, Dec 17. This whole thing starte

That is true, however I can't explain why netstat -a only gives the active UNIX domain sockets info, while the unstripped version reports Active Internet connections (including servers) as it's supposed to.. Sam To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in

I'm having now, and have had ever since I think 4.3-R, a problem with my Archive Tape drive and 2940 controller. I hate to bother anybody, but I'm seeing things that I don't understand, not to mention it no longer works. Rather than clutter the list with needless traffic, if somebody is willing
