to be setuid root! Like so:

If it is not setuid root, regular users can, obviously, no longer can change
their own passwords. Change it back:
chmod u+s /usr/bin/passwd
That will do it. It might be of interes

or chroot to secure it? I know root can potentially break out of chroot. But

share -> /etc/ftpchroot/ftp/share
Then "/ftp/share" is accessible from both the 'real' and the chrooted

I recently upgraded my old gcc 2.95 to gcc44. Question is, though, what
make.conf, or other settings, do I need to apply to get the system to use
the new gcc? Ports keep finding (and using) the old gcc 2.95.

If you do not have the card yet, an IP camera is an easy setup for a security
cam. I have some Axis and off brand cameras doing this type of work. Look into
/usr/ports/multimedia/motion for a security camera system.

I'm using FreeBSD 6.1-RELEASE. When I run "ls -l" it takes forever for the it
to complete. top shows that the "ls -l" command uses about 98% of the CPU doing
the time. If I run "ls" I do not experience any problem. a

Do you by any chance have a cdrom or dvd drive connected on your secondry
IDE? If so, this would explain the drop in speed. Try connecting the 2
80G drives as master and slave on the same IDE.

printer). USB2 is 450 times faster, and may remove a bottleneck. On the
other hand, the bottleneck may be the speed at which the printer can process
either Postscript or its raster data. And that may depend on some resolution
settings.

Correct, the upgrade procedure doesn't copy them back. You have to do
that (or merging them with the new config files in /etc) yourself - if
you really need it.

I'd suggest googling "unsupported MMC profile 10" and read through the
threads that brings up. It appears to have something to do with
incompatible media/firmware combos.
