Found that my certificates had expired overnight and a little digging turned up
why: per hier(1), the conf file is under /usr/local
/usr/local/etc/nginx/nginx.conf
I hate to make a symlink to resolve this if there is a cleaner way: can certbot
be directed to look in /usr/local/etc instead of /e
