nice to ask itojun, thank you.
I wish to establish a configured SIT tunnel between a Linux box and
a FreeBSD box. (host to host only)
By the tunnel configuration on Linux side i give
ifconfig sit0 tunnel ::IPv4-Address on the FreeBSD side.
Automatically appears in the Linux routing table the fe8
yes itojun, you are right with your remark, on the other side I don't
see by all available RFC's about tunneling IPv6 over IPv4, how
can somebody perform it, without such a Link Local Address!
(In this sense it is very relevant what JINMEI, Tatuya wrote)
I have read about such a tunnel success b

Hello all,
I hope this time (the second attempt) somebody can help me, because I know
other users have the solution.
What do I need to do with my kernel or configuration files or whatsoever
in order to be able to see a Link Address

Hello dear all,
I run FreeBSD-4.0 (no changes on the generic kernel) and try to
establish a tunnel between a Linux pc and the FreeBSD pc.
Unfortunately there is no documentation in the book how should
it work, not even for tunnel from FreeBSD to FreeBSD.
I have found Information in Internet an
I have set ip6_gateway_enable="NO"
so that
net.inet6.ip6.accept_rtadv=1
and address autoconfiguration happens.
Now autoconfiguration succeeds but I get the curious message
nd6_options: unsupported option 7-option ignored
anybody know an advise?
thanks:
Anastasia

Hello Hajimu UMEMOTO,
thanks a lot for your hint.
I have looked up in the documentation
/usr/share/doc/handbook/book.html
and searched for autoconfiguration.
Finally I

I have tried to start address autoconfiguration on my FreeBSD-4.0 system
by putting
ip6mode="autohost"
rtsol="YES" rtsol_flags="sm1" # set your interface here
in rc.conf and rebooting the system.
After reboot I still had only Link-Local-Address only, though a router makes
advertisement in Net.

hello Gunther,
thanks a lot for the interesting mail.
I don't do IP filters that's for sure. I am astonished that
on the bieringer www page (www.bieringer.de) the standalone modus
is recommended! I run the IPv6 ftpd of Free-BSD (downloaded and
compiled from the bieringer page) installed on the

I have installed BIND 9.1.2 on my Linux SuSE system.
Until now it has worked good, lately it makes problems.
It reacts very slowly on a query and sometimes it aborts with
"unknown host soandso"
I give ping soandso
and after sometime comes the right answer
and then again ping soandso
and I get u
Hello Steve, hello Ted, hallo Matthew hello Bill and hello Dave!
thanks a lot for your advices. You were right. In the far machine I didn't
have the client ftp pc in /etc/hosts and I thought I didn't need it
because the target pc is also the name server. However I had not

dns before files, but if it gets the appeal from a certain address
must the dns first be started? Do I fail some important information
at the point?

when I do ftp from a freeBSD pc to a Linux SuSE it takes long
between a succesful connection, but then the file transfer goes fast.
Does anybody know how can I check where the time is used?
Any useful command?

although in the bieringer Site it is explicitly written that the
ftpd-BSD must be started in standalone modus, I had tried to build it in
the inetd.conf and that was the reason why I couldn't make ftp to
a host where the ftpd-BSD was started by ftp request. I have tried the allow

if I may bother you with my experience (of the moment!)
the most effective way was:
route add -inet6 bla:bla:bla:: -prefixlen 48 gateway -ifp xl0
then I can reach the Gateway + the subnets which the gateway routes to.
When I give only
route add -inet6 bla:bla:bla:: gateway
i can then reach o
I am trying to add a static route to the kernel tables
and read the route Manpage to this purpose
I've tried a lot but I get almost the same message:
"bad address"
what's wrong with the command?
route add -inet6 bla.bla.bla::/48 -iface xl0
thanks a lot
