The option "E-mail me when my user talk page is changed" was checked on "My Preferences" , so I assume this is default. I always wondered why this feature wasn't there by default. This is particularly important for the just registered and new users, to at least return back once to the Wiki. I used

Email notification for user talk page changes is now enabled on all wikis. The issue came up at the MediaWiki developer meeting here in Berlin. A few ops people were sitting together, we couldn't think of any reason why it wasn't enabled yet, so we just did it on the spot. - Tim Starling __
