If so, you may want to enable notifications also for watchlist: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28026 Watchlist notifications should definitely be off by default at least for old users (new users can disable them when they have too many pages in their watchlist but old ones would receive thousands of emails in a day before doing so), while I agree that talk page notifications should be true by default for everyone: we need to contact also old and inactive users and only a tiny fraction of (very active) users needs to disable them; anyway, they won't receive many emails, just one before they visit the talk page.
