I have a 2016 Leaf with 8 bars left. Driving slowly I made it 94 miles over
three hills to Modesto. The highest 1,000 feet. Altamonte. This the i580 route
from San Francisco. It was in the 50's in San Francisco and 42° in Modesto when
I got there with 14 miles range left. I average 5 miles per

Yes; EV range is reduced by cold much more than ICEs. A couple data points:

It is important for an EV to provide both
Also: In winter, all cars require more energy due to increased aerodynamic
losses. Cold air is denser air, and thus creates more drag.

I have a 2010 Chevy Colorado small pickup (successor to the Chevy S10).
I keep track of its gas mileage. It gets
ICE cars essentially have "free" heat, since about 70% of the fuel ends up
as waste heat. EVs are too efficient, so no appreciable waste heat, so
all the heat has to come from the battery. The way to "cheat" is to
pre-condition the car before you depart while the car is still plugged into
the g

How much did the cold affect his car’s performance?

The only difference he’s noticed is a loss of about 3%, or 10 mile
