It depends.
You cannot comment an item, as it will effectively close list, per
indentation rule. However, you can comment a region within an item
without breaking anything:

Hi list,
when I decrease the text size in Org-mode (using e.g. `C-x -'), the
ellipses stay large, which is quite annoying. Can I do anything about
it or is it a bug in Org-mode?

You are right. It's a bug IMO.
I guess it has something to do with the display table being cr
when i comment item 6, i expect it to be indented under item 5, so
that item 7 will still be valid and renumbered 6.

that would be extra steps and would potentially change the bullet
style. does anybody find it useful to stop the list? if so, i won't
pursue this. :)

Oops. I am very sorry for wasting your guys' time. I now found the problem: the
test org file somehow contains a line somewhere (I guess it was automatically
generated by org-mode when I first created the file) that overwrites html-
postamble to be auto.

Hi John, almost solves the problem, the catch is entries like:
** Norton my office <2015-03-11 Wed 10:00 +1w>
The date range searches in either the sparse tree or the tag-property
match searches don't seem to calculate out repeating dates ... fair
