I also confirm I have this bug since I installed Ubuntu 13.10, did not
see it on 13.04 (or it wasn't so bad). I used GIMP these days and the
laptop becomes unresponsive from time to time, the menus do not open or
they open after lots of time, etc. This is no way of using the

In saucy 13.10 when no application is active HUD still does not list "Suspend,
Shut down, turn on/off wifi", which were so useful in 13.04.
Instead it shows commands to Nautilus (like "Connect to server", "New window",
"Bookmarks" etc).
In fact at the moment no matter which application I open (L
A black screen is indicative of an X server crash rather than a
Compiz/Unity crash (which will leave windows open and functional on the
desktop, but without decorations).
It is possible there is a bug in the current Intel driver for the X
server triggered by something in the control center module.
For the record, I'm still getting the overlay-scrollbar stack overflow
in saucy.

If having the messaging menu in addition bothers you, you can hide it by
disabling it in every application that uses it right now.
