(The issue with mismatched hostname is the same.) One person discussed
how they fixed dovecot to work in their setup. It involved (IIRC) passing
GSS_C_NO_CREDENTIAL to gss_accept_sec_context(). Maybe that thread will

This generally happens automatically. Don't know what system you are on

My squirrelmail talks imap to the server (localhost in my case) an does no

I dont't know the capabilities of gmail, but IMAP supports server side search
which is quite fast if the Solr full text search plugin for dovecot is used
(wiki.dovecot.org/Plugins/FTS/Solr). For debian "dovecot-solr" can be used.
For Android K9-Mail does not really support server side search, Aq
