I don't know which of the 2 actions below I took helped but the result
is I got dovecot 2.4.0 working at the end.
1. I originally installed Homebrew on an Intel based MacBook and I'm now
on Apple M2. Hence, I was running running brew with Rosetta. I decided
to re-install
I recently changed the userdb to sql, using a stored procedure and since then,
every so often, maybe 2-3 times per day I see errors like these in the maillog:
