I've been tasked with teaching a colleague general Unix-ish command line
skills. I'd like to find a good book to work with him on. He uses Mac OS X,
but the book doesn't necessarily have to be focused on that OS. In fact, an
OS-agnostic book would be ideal, as he does have to ssh into Linux boxes

If your hardware doesn't support ESXi, I suggest trying "VMware Server",
also free. It doesn't run on the "bare metal", but it does run very well and
works with almost any Linux distribution:

I've successfully used it to virtualize WinXP systems in the past,
Apologies in advance if this is considered off-topic for this list:
Are you, or anyone you know, a Linux sysadmin in San Diego looking for

You can certainly install full RT on your own server - it's just one
of the most horrible web applications I've ever had to set up in my
entire life - but once you get it's working, it does things better
than any other ticket system I've been able to find.

I saw Hiveminder suggested in another thread here and looked it over -
I'm looking for some web app (either self hosted or SaaS-style,
doesn't have to be free) that combines a ticketing system and some
light project management features that would be good for two sysadmins
to use. A system where I c
