I used to use alien in the past and it never really used to work well in
regards to the packages once converted.
Have you tested with lucid which is rock solid as well as maverick?

I would like to start the development of a ODF viewer Extension for
Chromium/Firefox.
I know there is an ODF Viewer already, I want to probably port it to an
extension that could be installed to Firefox & Chromium.
