IMHO you have some service/program in your system dependent on d-bus
and it hurt your cpu. You can try run

Forgive my ignorance, but I'm not sure how to check this. I run a
recent Fedora with the default gdm display manager - could gdm or its
x.org configuration enable a composer? I haven't done anything to
enable it myself
