I'd like to report that this bug still persists in 12.04 and 14.04 on a
Toshiba NB200.
I have worked round it on 14.04 with the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet
splash nolapic_timer clocksource=jiffies"
line in /etc/default/grub as mentioned above.
