Apparently, this issue was fixed with a batch of updates earlier today

You can resolved temporarily the bug commenting the following headings:
gconf > system/http_proxy/use_http_proxy
dconf > system/proxy/http/enabled
Don't you remember to set the host and port fields.
The terminal commands for setting gconf and dconf are gconf-editor and
dconf-editor.

after a new try; but a curious phenomena; this command "killall ..."
doesn't kill banshee but the system become very slow , the cpu rate for
banshee is about 70% and i need to kill the process with the monitor to
end the task ; after the system become again normal

with Unity2D the gimp problem is different (but equally crippling) --

I forgot to point to a workaround you can use until the bug gets fixed:
remove lightdm and (re)install gdm (like in Ubuntu 11.04) as display
manager. Open a terminal and enter: 'sudo apt-get remove lightdm' and
'sudo apt-get install gdm'.
