be possible for you to do an in-place upgrade to Utopic or reinstall
with Vivid?

The bios update did not change anything unfortunately. As for what
happened, if I understand the question correctly, as I said I experience
pretty much the same as what is described in #360724. The bug is still
present and occurs after booting at a random point, it can be an hour, a
day, or several
Apparently the last claim is not correct, restarting X also make it go
away.
