I have an HP OfficeJet 4654 connected to my Xubuntu 22.04 LTS Jammy
Jellyfish desktop via USB cable. I am running the latest HP-LIP drivers,
and the scanner works relatively well.
However, when I set the page size preference to Automatic (the default),

Now when the paper size is set to automatic, a letter-sized sheet

I have my appearance set to dark for many reasons. Most apps adhere to
these settings, but simple-scan always comes up with a light colored
background instead of dark.

on the platen and has a sheet feeder as well.
