Public bug reported:

I have an HP OfficeJet 4654 connected to my Xubuntu 22.04 LTS Jammy
Jellyfish desktop via USB cable. I am running the latest HP-LIP drivers,
and the scanner works relatively well.

However, when I set the page size preference to Automatic (the default),
a letter sized scan on the platen comes out fine. When I set the page
size preference to Letter, the scan comes out legal sized - totally
wrong.

Also, when I use the page size preference of Automatic (the default), a
scan of a letter-sized sheet using the feeder comes out legal sized.
However, if I scan the same sheet with the page size preference set to
Letter, it comes out fine.

This means I have to remember or check what my last page size preference
is set to to scan the right sized output depending on whether the scan
is on the platen or through the feeder.

This is so unbelievably bad user-friendliness I can't even describe it
further.

3) When the page size preference is set to Automatic, I expect it to
produce a scan of a size that automatically matches the actual size of
the page scanned whether I use the platen or the sheet feeder. When I
set the preference to Letter, I expect the scan to be letter-sized
whether I use the platen or the sheet feeder.

what happened.
