The application now appears in the "Installed" list, but with the wrong name
and the wrong icon.
If I kill gnome-software and restart it, the application is not present anymore
in the "Installed" list.
If I do a search in gnome-software, I can find the applica

I used X11 more often lately and faced the same bug, so it is not
actually a Wayland only problem.
It seems the flash occurs only in the evening. So my guess is that the
bug is related to the Night Mode of Gnome that randomly deactivates
itself for one frame.

Because I did not want to leak any personal data in the crash files, I
reinstalled an Ubuntu 17.10 on another hard drive to have a fresh
generic installation and did the tests there before rebooting on my
regular installation.
There are two crash files, one for gnome-shell, the other one for
XWayl
I applied the workaround and ran again the command. It seems that
nothing happens when I try to send the report:

I found the bug with my main computer which has an AMD gpu. I can
reproduce the bug with the PC I'm using to connect with SSH. I just need
to hold F11 down on Firefox. That PC has a nVidia gpu, so I guess the
problem is gpu vendor independent.

Executables are now linked with the -pie option, which lead to a file
type that is nearly indistinguishable from a shared library. I learned
that this is an expected consequence.
The only difference is the presence of an 'interpreter' for executable
files, but nothing forbids a .so to have an 'int

files, the process is very slow, something like 1 to 5 seconds per file,

wrong driver. I was using AMD's amdgpu-pro proprietary drivers. I

I have it sometimes when starting VLC by double-clicking on a video. I
have to wait for about 20 seconds before VLC starts playing (though VLC
process is actually started).
It looks like a lock exists somewhere but I wonder where. I am also
having a hard time finding information about how to safel
Ok, found the fix on an partially related AskUbuntu question. I just had
to empty the gst1.0 cache:
rm -r ~/.cache/gstreamer-1.0
And then everything worked. The Ubuntu update tool maybe screwed up at
some point with this.

The issue seems to be old. It could be fixed either in X, in GTK or in
every application relying on GTK (Firefox in my case).

Sometimes when I launch Gimp, the main window is fully transparent with
the exception of the normal frame (title bar, buttons, ...).
The only way to fix the problem is to exit and restart Gimp.
