runs fine with Java 8, and the declared package dependencies also
reflects that.
For an LTS, I'm suggesting to keep the compatiblity to Java 8,
especially since upstream Gradle works fine with Java 8 (even the

I cannot test this, because I moved to Utopic and Vivid. Both kernels
have the same problem. I think this test is as good as the one you're
proposing and the status of this ticket can be moved back to 'new'.

I've got exactly this issue (missing characters, sometimes funny colored
artifacts replacing characters in fonts) on the Lenovo T410s (Ubuntu
15.04, xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917-1~exp1ubuntu2.2). Will this
fix be ported to Vivid?

Pretty sure. All I did is "sudo update-manager -d" and click on the
upgrade button.
Forgot to add to my last comment: of course I chowned the file back to
my user account and the problems are gone.

I found the reason for the strange behaviour of the system. After
upgrading, the file "/home//.config/dconf/user" was chowned to
root. So all write accesses failed.
Looks like there is some bug in the upgrading process.

On Quantal, I was able to pipe audio though DisplayPort to my monitor,
which has a proper audio system connected.
On Raring, DisplayPort audio is missing from the Sound preferences,
Output tab.
