I found the reason for the strange behaviour of the system. After upgrading, the file "/home/<username>/.config/dconf/user" was chowned to root. So all write accesses failed.
Looks like there is some bug in the upgrading process. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1445388 Title: Text Entry ignores all changes Status in unity-control-center package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I upgraded from Utopic to Vivid RC and had my German keyboard layout replaced by US layout. Opened Control Center > Text Entry and the Input sources list is empty. I try to add German (or US) but nothing happens. The list stays empty. When I try to switch any other setting it very briefly acknowledges the change but then switches back to where it came from. $ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (development branch) Release: 15.04 $ apt-cache policy unity-control-center unity-control-center: Installed: 15.04.0+15.04.20150410-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 15.04.0+15.04.20150410-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 15.04.0+15.04.20150410-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-control-center/+bug/1445388/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
