Attempting to copy music (m4a) files from laptop to external device

I raised this a long time ago. I'm now on 18.04 using gnome and have no
urge to return to unity.
I will have double checked and walked through the steps I originally
described so I suggest you try that. Sorry I can't be of more help but
perhaps if there'd been a faster response...

I observed that libmtp contains a large listing of device/vendor
information tied in with special flags for handling/mitigating errors. I
noticed my device is not in the list.

work on, also nautilus is probably the wrong place for adding disk modes
handling since it's only an application and not autostarted on boot
