Turns out the problem was that in the Sound Settings->Applications,
Rythmbox was muted. As to wether that is a bug, I still think it is
possible because I haven't messed with the sound settings and this was
the first time I tried running Rythmbox.

On Utopic, after I start my laptop, the [fn] buttons for brightess
control and locking the screen don't work, but after I resume the
session from suspend, they finally work as expected.
I am really not sure which package is this bug related to, sorry for
that.

Thank you guys for testing this. Unfortunately I do not know the cause
with the wireless network problems. I was doing sanity tests of those
kernels on my trusty desktop (with a USB WiFi dongle) and my utopic
laptop (with built-in wifi). In both cases I was able to use my network.

Well "160 x 90 mm" is obviously too small so there's a bug somewhere. Do
those dimensions change if you remove all the *mir packages?

I had the same problem with this upgrade and an ICH6. Alsamixer and 'm'
for unmute fixed it. The mute state is not at all obvious; I would guess
its starting value/default changed?

Interesting... Your terminal output says "[Errno 5] Input/output error"
while setting up duplicity. That is a very generic error. Not sure how
to debug this.
