I wasn't trying to install anything in particular. This is a breezy
install that I upgraded to dapper (on December 31st if the mtime on
/etc/apt/sources.list can be trusted). I just pointed apt at the newer

FWIW, I checked the i386 package (running ldd on the executable on my x86
breezy
system) and it doesn't have a dbus dependency. Maybe this p

*sigh* all my fault. Apparently we're both blind though. :)
The culprit was the avahi libs in /usr/local. I'd built these before
upgrading and they were linked against the old dbus. ld.so was picking
up these versions ove
