I have run into this problem as well. The "inactive" in "Turn screen off
when inactive for" is a bit misleading: it's not directly about the user
being inactive.
For example: Playing an HTML5-YouTube Video in Firefox will delay the turning

I have a simple program that tries to access the gtk FileChooser dialog...and
use ssh urls with it. This does not work on Ubuntu. And gives error : Operation
not supported. and the dialog does not allow the ssh urls.
So I wrote a test program
thanks for quick update.. how do I get the code to work? I tried gio and
gvfs as the backend names.. didnt work. Any help would be appreciated.
(To be able to select remote files, is very critical to our

So i tried everything but a reboot and after the bug report decided that
should be next...so i rebooted and it worked. Thought that was just a
microsoft fix... heh.
So looks like it was more of a problem with hardy then rhythmbox.

When laptop lid is closed, the screen is turned off. When the lid is opened,
Gnome asks for the password of the currently connected user.

I did a fresh install on a HP Pavilion X300 model11-k001ns
The main problem is that I can connect to the Wifi, it appears as
disabled in the Network Manager and when I enable it, it doesn't show
any SSID
I think it detects two wireless devices

I can confirm this, except that invoking "killall metacity" only worked
the first time I tried it. After rebooting, this seemed to have no

I am using the default Human theme. I have always had problems such as
this one when using the default theme, but had previously just 'put up
with it', waiting in hope for a fix to come along via the update

This is not a bug! You can change sorting from Prename to Surname for
every single track. If you right-click on the track, go to "properties"
(I guess that must be the right translation for "Eigenschaften" - I have
a german system). Then you go to "sorting" and change that to pre- or
surname.

I can get my desktop icons back by
doing an Alt-F2 and entering "nautilus -n" . I can browse all my devices by
using places. So , what is going on? I cannot find a solution to the problem

folder I noticed that
Hardy Heron (Ubuntu 8.04) randomly creates an empty duplicate of folder Ai that
was just worked on.
I searched the forums to see if there are any entries on this subject but with
no luck.
