Indeed. I think it might be by design but totem only responds to multimedia
keys when focused. This is good because programs like rhythmbox also bind to
multimedia keys and it would be unclear where the key press should go if both
rhtyhmbox and totem (or another app) were running at the same tim

system the aspect ratio is set to automatic and totem seems to get it right...

I can't reproduce the problem using the steps specified here (rhythmbox
0.9.3.1-0ubuntu3 x86). Can you indicate what version of rhythmbox is on your
system and what platform you are running on?
