On a fully up to date install of Ubuntu focal, I confirmed that the bug
still existing using the current version gnome-shell-extension-
appindicator/33.1. I then installed and tested the new version gnome-
shell-extension-appindicator/33.1-0ubuntu0.20.04.1 and can confirm the
bug no longer occurs

Well I just found out that there is an xnest package which I did not
have installed. I installed the package and now the menu option and
"gdmflexiserver --xnest" works fine. May be there should be some
dependency on the xnest package or at least the gdmflexiserver error

I've compile brasero-2.30.1 from the sourcepackage, installed and done a
ldconfig. When I run sound-juicer through gdm I get the attached
debuglog output. Does this help? I'll happily do more to help fix this.

In the above debug log, there are some values, one
crucial value is that of num in the brasero_medium_read_CD_TEXT()
function that calls _next_CD_TEXT_pack() where the crash happens. This
sets the assumed size of the array who's access is causing the SEGV.

You might be able to restore the logout menu by changing a gnome-session
setting. Be careful with this application as you can change all kinds of
things... Press Alt-F2 and type "gconf-editor" into the dialogue box
then click "run". Open the "apps" branch, then scroll down and open
"gnome-session

I presume the tick box to the left is enabled? If you click the play
button do you get a short drum roll? The reason I'm asking about this
option is that if it is enabled but you have no sound specified, you get
a system beep instead. I thought that might have been the cause;

The menu items with arrows to the right have sub-menus attached. There
is an icon to the left of the item. Hardy looks almost the same but but
in Intrepid, the arrow font is heavier. I have obviously misunderstood
what the problem is because I think things are just far as they are.
