The problem persists with 23.04 and now with 23.10 as well from what I
see. The only difference is that if I turn off the HDMI screen, the
notebook screen can disable backlight over time.

This is Gnome bug I presume that manifests mostly on Ubuntu (clash with
Canonical's tweaks) with some HDMI monitors (mostly Lenovo). The same
monitors work as intended under Windows.
My bet is they send some message back to the computer when they change
power state after requested to go to full po
This is very interesting observation, maybe it'll help devs chase the
bug.
Unfortunately for myself, I have only HDMI both in the notebook and the
docking station.

The wake-up from sleep is around 11:26. There's a lot of stuff before,
so maybe you can find something.

I've dumped my log in #2007268. Setting the variable didn't change
anything in terms of backlight as in @szx case.

Interesting thing is that I've reinstalled Kubuntu recently, then added
Wayland. Plasma on Wayland seem to disable screens correctly.
I've installed `ubuntu-desktop` and switch again to Gnome... and screens
remain backlighted. This time I haven't added any extensions.

OK, in my case my Lenovo L28u-30 doesn't have option to disable
autoswitch.
What I noticed on 24.04, however, is that if I lock the screen with 🪟+L
and the notebook (Lenovo P16s) screen goes full blank and then I turn
off L28u-30 with switch, it stays blank (so I can save backlight).

Raspberry Pi has different architecture, uses HDMI differently than

How nice. Means I have to wait another year to see the fix. I can only
use LTS for work.

What the alternative is? Not fixing it? I learnt to turn off my monitor
just after pressing Windows+L, but that's annoying. And doing so sends
all my windows into mess.
