I have the same issue as well, and the same result as LuisC when I run
`gnome-shell -r`. I also have a touch screen, and interestingly, the
windows still accept input from the touchscreen even when the mouse

killed it. Happened so far only once so far may just uninstall samba
since I don't use it. My computer is a HP Envy Phoenix 810 series.

Before I was able to copy and remove files from USB fat32 drive with the
terminal even though nemo might not be working but now cannot do it even with
terminal. Cannot do it with command rm -r foldername or sudo rm -r foldername
The problem has got worse at least in my case using linux mint cinna
I managed to fix my problem by reformating the USB drive. Now I have
proper read write delete permissions for my usename.

I can fix the bug by deleting .gnonf & .gconfd but lose a lot of settings that

I am also seeing the same with Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric.
It is almost exactly the same with steps to reproduce and results. Also when I
login to guest the login sound works there.
I also tried with the Oneiric Ocelot live CD.

Disregard my comment in #3. My report about alert sound not playing when
pressing tab key, in terminal with live CD was wrong. It does play there also.

I have an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (RV 250) which had the same symptoms - 3D
applications would hard freeze. I can still ssh into the box from
another machine, but killing X did nothing, so I think the freeze is
actually the video card.

There is a configuration option in a GUI...just not the one you looked
at. This is really a documentation problem. If someone turned the
instructions I'm including here into a FAQ entry or something like that,
I don't think there's any application change needed here. It's just

I believe that the previous behaviour to the version of Totem in Karmic
was to display "Artist - Song Title" in the menu bar. It's currently
just showing the song title, which doesn't tell you anything unless you
look at the properties of the song t
This is very weird indeed as I can no longer reproduce the issue (it was
simply opening System Monitor and it wouldn't close when clicking on the
X). I bet there have been some upgrades to some of the dependent
packages, which is my only explanation for it working now.
