Attempting to do anything in Ubuntu/Xubuntu to a password with out using
sudo results in "permission denied". Since the root account is locked,
we can not make a change without sudo. However, I did type that line
wrong. Here is the actual lines from terminal:
jhtad...@justhaveto:~$ passwd -e jhtad
And, it works! Changing the password in terminal allows immediate use of
the new password.
jhtad...@justhaveto:~$ passwd
Changing password for jhtadmin.
(current) UNIX password:

In Xubuntu, this can only be seen the first time you open gedit, since
if you unmark "stick", the way it works changes. I also see this in
Jaunty 9.04 on the 32-bit installation, verified on a new installation
on 01-20-2009.

If you are using Xubuntu Jaunty 9.04 updated as of 2009-02-08, you are
upgraded to Xfce 4.6RC. This is the reason you can not upgrade to
xfce4-session. xfce4-session is already at 4.4.3.
