I've updated gvfs on Ubuntu Gnome 14.10 to 1.20.3 via trusty-proposed
(with libplist1 from trusty as dependency for gvfs-backends) and the
issue is still there. Even worse, now an ftp folder with pictures can't
load if it is told to generate thumbnails (on 1.20.1 from utopic it
generated nearly 50

I believe I'm seeing this bug too, although I'm using gnome-panel in a
Gnome session. I have a slightly different presentation, in that the
icon appears and disappears; I don't get empty spaces. I upgraded my
Karmic install to Lucid yesterday.

The Network Monitor applet doesn't use the theme background when the
panel it's on is set to use the theme colour. It's fine when the colour
is set explicitly.
I've attached a partial screenshot: I expected the background of the
applet to match the surrounding panel.

Corporate environments should be using a configuration management
system. There is no requirement for a user interface for this in a
corporate environment. It's not like a 10,000 desktop company is going
to go around and manually adjust a radio button.

In attempting to recreate your problem on my similar system, I was able
to create a link in nautilus by entering with sudo permissions in
terminal using the below command. The make link button was enabled and
allowed me to create one.

I've found that the cache folder for gnome-software (and therefore the
gnome software flatpak plugin) has changed from 17.10 to 18.04 - so it
might not be an issue for "real" users upgrading from 17.10?
