For example xterm does not have the --sm-diable option so you cannot
start it that way. It is possible to start network-admin --sm-diable
though to reset the network configurarion to a working state.
gnome-session might hang because of a non-working network environment,

I get this error when simply starting totem, without opening any file. I
am using totem-xine on ubuntu dapper latest updates.
The program 'totem' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.

The network handling of evolution in Dapper seems to be changed. Short
tests didn't crash evolution. Since I test with the Dapper Live cd, it
is hard to do some long term testing.

Yes, that patch fixes the double fade bug. The --lock parameter does not
lock the screen however, as in the comment by Oliver.
I applied the patch on the 2.14.1-0ubuntu2 version of gnome-screensaver.
