I also experience this issue. Was not there in 19.10 for me either. It's
ONLY when setting one of the monitors to portrait mode.
Currently I have to use a workaround, running ARandR or "nvidia x server
settings" after login to set the displays. But I can't save the settings
to make them persistent

Since the last updates of the mid-week, those who lead to final Ubuntu

Happens to me also with a fresh install of Ubuntu 20.04LTS.
Also HW acceleration does not work on Totem (choppy playback), not a
problem of gstreamer as gst-play plays videos just fine.

On a fresh Ubuntu 20.04 install I ran into this same issue. Tap to click
works fine on the desktop, but it does not work on the login screen. The
inconsistent behaviour can be very confusing.
Won't it be best to make the behaviour on the login screen and on the

Hi Daniel, I tried your instructions and there is no difference between
~/.config/monitors.xml and monitors-before.xml. Both files specify the
desired configuration, but upon logging in the monitors are in the wrong
configuration.

Nautilus can display the "Preparing" dialog for minutes after the event

What I found is, when I'm saving my settings in monitors.xml, is have

monitor enabled. The log in screen has all three monitors on, but then

I've just experienced this for the first time in Ubuntu 20.04 official
release. I did a fresh install of 20.04 on a system I had been running
19.10 on without ever experiencing this issue. I am running the
proprietary NVidia driver with a GT 1030 card, not using the built-in
graphics in my Celero
I have the same issue on a freshly installed Ubuntu 20.04, using the apt
package of gimp.
The laptop is a X270 12" with 1920x1080.
I noticed that the problem only occurs at fractional scaling (125%, 150%), at
100% scaling the icon sizes behave normal.

For the CPU firmware (CPU microcode?) update issue: sorry, it's
