Either I was mistaken, the bug has been fixed, or a restart of rhythmbox
made the difference: a last.fm entry has appeard on the side pane, where
I can enter my credentials.
If a restart was indeed necessary I'd like to remark that this is
counterintuitive / should not be necessary in my opinion.

I have encountered this same bug on a self built desktop computer
running 11.10 updated completely as of 12-14-11. I was able to open
chrome and pidgin before it realized I should have had to type a
password to do anything. This happens sporadically for me as well.

Open Rhythmbox, click jamendo on the left, it says it's loading
catalogue... never ends.
Running with -d noticed method get_url_chunks in file
/usr/lib/rhythmbox/plugins/rb/Loader.py is the problem as it raises a
"not implemented" exception on

This appears to be as being fixed in Oneiric (Ubuntu 11.10).
Although I agree we could do more (indicator ?), I'm not sure what else
needs to be done. I've just been able to confirm in precise (though the
packages in Oneiric as extremely similar, unlikely that there is any
difference impacting ala
