Is it possible that the characters do not display simply because there
is no font installed that provides a glyph for the code point?
(I notice when looking in the character map application, there are many
Chinese characters that appear to have no glyph, for example has
a glyph but does not

In addition to that I also found out thet the latest stable 280.13 driver is
just as trroublesome as 280.11,

Well, I'll mention it to the guys who maintain that PPA, but since it's
a PPA, I'll close this bug as Invalid (since it's not the actual Natty
or Oneiric packages in the archive). FWIW, this is fixed in Oneiric now,
the package just needs to be updated in the PPA.
