Looks like this was because of an empty (and consequently invalid)
~/.gnupg/trustdb.gpg, created in a recent shell session. Still, it
should detect an invalid trust DB. See also bug #786712.

Go into System Monitor, Processes Tab, and in the list, if you see
"nautilus", try killing it, and starting it in the Unity Launcher.

gnome-power-manager as the process that makes the %WAIT go up to 80% for that
time.

As an alternattive solution to the problem, perhaps it would be a better
idea to implement the Mozilla Thunderbird Spell Checker. To me it has
an easier to use interface and does a better job of suggesting possible
alternative spelling possibilities.

systems up to date. While writing a file to my NAS with Nautilus over
smb/cifs, iftop shows the connection start to degrade until it times

Not quite, My test file to a blank folder gets farther and is faster,
but eventually also times out.

I'm suffering from this , but only with gnome-sound-recorder. arecord
from the command line works fine; so does Audacity. Fiddling with
alsamixer makes no difference to sound-recorder (but makes the expected
differences to arecord). Machines is Acer Extensa with 64-bit Natty,
lshw -C multimedia giv
I can confirm icon "might" back if try kill "notification-area-applet"
but not works every time,
